Config Armory - Index

On these pages you will find RedTop's ongoing work to develop the ultimate RTCW configuration. Although there are more sources with very good configs out there, none offer a complete explanation. RedTop offers what he thinks is the ultimate config. Tweaked for maximum visibility, performance and accuracy within allowed Clanbase Punkbuster settings. On top of that, RedTop also tries to explain what the settings do and why he chose certain values. This will help you alter the config to your personal preferences. The settings of this config are probably close to optimal, but some explanations are still missing. Regard this Config Armory therefore as work in progress in which your help is greatly appreciated. Drop RedTop a line if you know the usage of settings that are not explained yet.

At first Red started configuring RTCW solely for himself. Soon his fellow clan members took notice and turned to him whenever they needed help about certain commands or wanted to have features implemented. All of a sudden Red had become the RFI config-guru. Apparently, staying up to date with the latest config "discoveries" and implementing them is something that RedTop really liked because he kept on enhancing his config. Later on he set out to make the definitive RTCW config and command explanation. So, here we are... Gathering all this information took a lot of research and time. It was found by checking discussion boards, websites, readme's, manuals, tutorials, guides and asking questions... the knowledge is definitely out there already, but never in one place.

Make sure you read these pages if you want to use Red's config. Some hardware specific settings need to be changed first or RTCW may not work properly. You will probably also want to change the controls to suit your preferences. To start using the config, simply unzip to your RTCW main directory and overwrite autoexec.cfg. Delete wolfconfig_mp.cfg from both OSP (or other mods) and main directories before running the game... just to be sure no old settings survive.
Open personal.cfg to enter your own binds, change the r_LastValidRenderer string (important!), nick etc. If you want to bind the Super Team Selector script to other keys you'll have to open superteam.cfg as well... Do not forget to open memory.cfg and choose the setup best suited for your PC.
Disable word wrap in your editor to make the text in the configs a lot more readable. RedTop recommends using editplus2, a kickass code editor with a lot of useful options.

These web pages give two separate explanations for each setting. The first one, with the red-ish background, is the same as the comments used in the config files. The second one is more thorough and usually easier to understand.

One final remark before getting to the good stuff... Red has put a lot of his time into gathering information and tweaking this config. You may use and distribute the config freely, but please... do give proper credit.

These links lead to explanations of Red's config. They relate to the several files that make up Red's config pack:

And this link gives you what it is all about. One beautiful, wonderful RTCW configuration. Isn't the Internet the best thing?
