Server Armory - Getting started

With Red's server configuration pack setting up a server is a simple process that involves only a few easy steps. To help you get going those steps will be discussed here.

  1. First of all, and this might sound a bit stupid to some of you, install the latest versions of RTCW and OSP. It's amazing how many out there are still playing RTCW 1.0 without OSP! Put in the effort to dowload OSP and all the latest patches, you won't regret it.
  2. Extract Red's server pack (server.zip) to the RTCW main directory with pathnames intact. This will put all files in the right places. The config files can be found in the OSP directory. It will also place two .bat files in the main directory, which can be used on Windows servers.
  3. Open public.cfg and enter your administrator data and edit the server name and messages to your personal preferences.
  4. Open server.cfg and edit the passwords so nobody will be able to do damage to your server configuration.
  5. Now you're ready to start the server. Yes, it's that easy. For a dedicated server enter the following at the command prompt in the RTCW main directory:
    • WolfMP +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game osp +exec server.cfg
Windows users can also simply execute dedicated.bat from the main directory. If you don't want your server to show up in the browser list, set dedicated to "1" instead of "2". Red himself more often uses a listen server. A listen server runs on a computer that at the same time runs a client. A listen server is ideal to invite buddies to log on to your computer for a good one-on-one fight. For a listen server enter the following at the command prompt in the RTCW main directory:
    • Windows: WolfMP +set fs_game osp +exec server.cfg
Again, Windows users can also simply execute listen.bat from the main directory.

As you see, setting up a server is ridiculously easy once you know how to do it. It's the freakin' maprotation that makes it look daunting... but with this config pack you do not have to worry about that anymore. Hopefully you will find this Server Armory as useful as the Config Armory. Drop Red a line if you know ways to improve it or if you know about a setting that is not explained yet.

Have fun people and don't forget to invite RedTop to your server!
